Macular dystrophy is a serious condition that needs to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. This condition can affect people of any age and is believed to be passed down genetically. If you're experiencing two or more of the below symptoms, contact your eye doctor at Wight Eye Care in Loves Park, IL, as soon as possible.
If your vision takes a long time to clear in the morning when you first wake up, or if you consistently see dark spots in the center of your field of vision, mention this to the eye doctor. On its own, this could signify several different problems, which is why the eye doctor will ask about other symptoms.
It becomes more difficult to read smaller print with this condition, especially if what you're reading is directly in front of you. If reading becomes easier as you move the paper around to the sides of your vision field, this could indicate macular dystrophy. If words appear blurry no matter where you put the paper, however, you might just need reading glasses. Your eye doctor will be able to tell you for sure.
If lights that once helped you see better now appear to be too bright, or if objects such as street lamps now appear to have a halo around them, you might have this condition. Be sure to mention this to your doctor during an eye exam. Without other symptoms, however, this can also be a sign of astigmatism.
If you're experiencing more than one of these symptoms, contact our optometrist at Wight Eye Care in Loves Park, IL, right away by calling (815) 708-7083. We can schedule your appointment to speak with our eye doctor and get you a proper diagnosis.
